About the department

In accordance with the Order of the Rector of NCEI ESPC “IUK” № 124 dated 01.10.2020 In order to expand its activities, the Department of Public Health was established on 1 October 2020.

The Department of Public Health is a multidisciplinary department that teaches students the basics of disease prevention, preservation and promotion of health, prolongation of life expectancy of the population.

Public health is the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life and improving the quality of life through the organized efforts and informed choices of society, organizations (public and private), communities and individuals.

Public health is an interdisciplinary field that includes important areas such as epidemiology, biostatistics, public health, social sciences and health services management. Equally important areas of public health are general hygiene, environmental health, public policy, mental health, health information and promotion, health policy, behavioral health, health economics, occupational disease and disability prevention, gender in health, and sexual and reproductive health.

Objectives of the department:

  • Conducting a quality educational process aimed at developing students’ understanding of the interrelationships between the disciplines of public health and health care and their relevance to medical practice.
  • Development and delivery of training programmes, courses and seminars in the disciplines of public health and public health, adapted to the specificities of medical education.
  • Maintaining the relevance and innovativeness of the educational process through the introduction of modern teaching methods and the use of the latest educational technologies.
  • Assist students in developing critical thinking, communication skills, ethical principles and professional ethics.
  • Participate in research activities aimed at increasing knowledge in the field of public health and health care.
  • Collaboration with other departments at ISM IUK to ensure students’ integrated education and goals are met.
  • Teaching, discussions, group work and independent study of material by students.
