On the 25th of May 2023 at the International School of Medicine of IUK held The University Students Olympiad (intellectual game) on general and clinical biochemistry among students of 1 and 2 courses of medical faculty. The Olympiad was organized by teachers of biochemistry: candidate of chemical sciences, acting associate professor Kadyrkulova S.O. and teacher Torokulova S.S.
The aim of this competition was to increase students’ interest in the in-depth study of general and clinical biochemistry and to develop their scientific potential.
The Olympiad consisted of 6 rounds, in each of which the participants demonstrated their knowledge, skills, and critical thinking:
First round: “Business card”
Presentation of the teams – video “My team”.
Second round: Creative Homework
Staging of a drama on the topic “Mechanism of action and functions of insulin”.
Third round: Captains’ competition
All the captains solved the same task. Not only the correctness of the solution was assessed, but also the time in which the task was completed.
Fourth round: Quiz “Four pictures – one word”
In this quiz, four pictures were offered and they had to be summed up in one word.
Fifth round: Assessment of practical skills: “Guess the substance”
Numbered test tubes contained different substances, which visually did not differ much from each other. Students had to identify, by means of qualitative chemical reactions, which substance was in each test tube.
The sixth round: “Do you know?”
In this competition students had to give the right answer, the right explanation and give concrete examples.
A total of five teams took part in the Olympiad: “Molecular masters”, “Reaction rebels”, “Nucleic Ninjas”, “Over Reactors”, “Solution Squad”.
The jury consisted of leading teachers of the discipline “General and Clinical Biochemistry”: Candidate of Chemical Sciences, Associate Professor Dyusheeva B.M., Candidate of chemical sciences Associate Professor Aitkeeva Ch, the Lecturer of the “Biochemistry with a course of general and bioorganic chemistry” named after A.D. Dzhumaliev Niyazalieva J.K., Head of the Department of Fundamental Disciplines, Doctor of Bio Sci., Prof. Akmatova E.K. The Chairman of the Jury was PhD, Senior Lecturer on clinical biochemistry Sir Aziz Kurram.
Based on the results of the Olympiad winners and prizewinners were determined and awarded with official diplomas and gifts.
The winners were the students of the following teams:
1st Degree Diploma “Reaction Rebels”
2nd Degree Diploma “Molecular Masters”
3rd-Degree diploma “Over Reactors”
The Olympiad was not only a competition among students where they got a chance to demonstrate their knowledge and skills but was remembered by all participants, including the Jury, as a kind, interesting, bright, fun, and informative event.
