On December 1, 2023, the ISM IUK Eastern Medical Campus hosted a World AIDS Day Awareness Day for 8th- 9th-semester students, organized by the Student Support Department, Student Council, Department of Clinical Specialties, and Department of Infectious Diseases. The purpose of World AIDS Day, which is celebrated annually on December 1, is to raise global awareness of HIV/AIDS and demonstrate international solidarity in the face of the pandemic.
As part of AIDS Day, a competition was held among the teams, which had to prepare the following tasks:
- Informational presentation on the history of the epidemic, hypotheses of the disease, ways of virus transmission, the difference between HIV and AIDS, protection measures, experience of health preservation, formation of knowledge about healthy lifestyle, etc.
- Creative task. The teams presented their 3D models to describe the disease and address important issues in HIV/AIDS prevention, as well as to be creative for a better understanding of the audience.
- Clinical skills assessment. Each team was asked clinical questions to elicit the students’ proper understanding of the problem.
At the end of the information day, the best teams and speakers were nominated and awarded certificates and prizes from ISM IUK.
At the end of the event, an expert of the Republican AIDS Center of the Ministry of Health of the Kyrgyz Republic, Ms. D. Y. Ysmayylova, gave detailed information about the dynamics of HIV/AIDS infection in the Kyrgyz Republic and the world.
We hope that this event will help students to raise awareness of measures to combat AIDS.
